脂肪腫


症例

いつの間にかモルモットにしこり・腫瘍ができているかもしれません。


しこり・腫瘍がある場合

早めに病院で検査を受けましょう。そして今後の方針についてかかりつけ医と話し合いましょう。

良性であっても病巣やサイズ、年齢によっては医師から切除を提案されるかもしれません。例えば、足の付け根に発生した場合、腫瘍肥大化に伴い歩行困難となる可能性があるからです。

反対に、悪性であってもサイズや年齢によっては医師から手術を勧められない可能性があります。

というのも、モルモットは侵襲性の高い処置にすこぶる弱いです。ストレッサーに敏感である[1]（臨床検査ですら個体の病態・状態を鑑みて検査が有用か判断する必要あり[2]）ことに加えて、犬や猫よりも麻酔関連の死亡率が有意に高く[3]、薬剤への感受性も高いそうです[2]。抗生物質には特に注意が必要で、腸内細菌叢（腸内フローラ）が崩れて致命的な腸炎を引き起こす可能性[2]もあるそうです。また、麻酔下で低体温になるため[4]体温管理にも配慮が必要となったり[5]、静脈カテーテル挿入や気管挿管が犬猫よりも技術的に難しいようです[6][7]。あるいは手術不可能な場所への転移もありうるでしょう。これらのことから、「手術をしたけどすぐ（周術期や術後数ヶ月）に死んでしまった」という声を医師から聞いたりSNSで見かけたりするのだと思います。

ちなみに、モルモットの腫瘍において脂肪腫（良性）の発生率は比較的高く[8][9]、3歳以上のモルモットで好発する傾向が示唆[9][10]されています。

なお、ざっと調べた限り、現時点では、脂肪腫の発生要因は不明のようです（科学的根拠のない記事などは散在しています）。
